Point Of Sale

Modes

Understand the two POS operating modes — Register mode for in-store sales and Customer Service mode for remote orders.

When opening the Point of Sale, you select one of two operating modes. If your user account has access to both, a mode picker is shown. If you only have one role, that mode is selected automatically.

Register mode

Register mode is the full cash register experience, designed for in-store sales where fiscal compliance is required.

How it works

  1. Open the Point of Sale and select Register.
  2. Select a business unit (store location).
  3. Select and open a cash register assigned to that business unit.
  4. Log in with your 6-digit PIN code.
  5. You are now in the selling interface with full register capabilities.

Key characteristics

  • Login: 6-digit PIN code (not your regular Avvyr login).
  • Cash register: Required — each session is tied to a specific register.
  • Fiscal registration: Sales are fiscally registered via a connected control unit (where required). See Compliance.
  • Day-end procedure: Required — the register must be closed at the end of the day with cash counting and Z-report generation. See Day-end & Reports.
  • Payment methods: All methods supported, including cash and physical payment terminals.
  • Reports: Z-reports and journal available.

Required role

Users need the posDevice role to access Register mode.

Customer Service mode

Customer Service mode provides the same selling interface as Register mode — the same product catalog, cart workflow, customer management, and order handling — but without a physical cash register or fiscal registration.

The purpose is to give support staff the same experience as in-store employees. This minimizes training needs and centralizes knowledge across your organization, whether staff are in a store or at a support desk.

How it works

  1. Open the Point of Sale and select Customer Service.
  2. Select a business unit that has Customer Service POS enabled.
  3. Click Continue to Sales.

You are now in the selling interface without a cash register. You use your regular Avvyr login — no PIN code is required.

Key characteristics

  • Login: Regular Avvyr login (no PIN code).
  • Cash register: Not used.
  • Fiscal registration: No — sales are not fiscally registered.
  • Day-end procedure: Not required.
  • Payment methods: Remote/online payments only — cash payments are typically not used.
  • Reports: Z-reports are not available.

Required role

Users need the customerServicePos role to access Customer Service mode.

Use cases

  • Phone orders — A customer calls to place an order. The agent builds the cart, adds the customer, selects a payment method, and completes the sale.
  • Email orders — Process orders received via email with the same workflow.
  • Remote support — Help customers who had issues with their online order by processing adjustments, returns, or replacement orders.

Selecting a market

In Customer Service mode, the market is determined by the business unit you select. Make sure the business unit is configured with the correct market for the pricing, currency, and language you need.
